Can You Tell if This Is a Dressage Horse?
So I bought this horse! This is a video of him from a few years back… He is a Belgian Warmblood. He was trained to the highest levels but then this girl bought him and used him for natural horsemanship, i dont know why she did that… But he is a great horse!!
Anyways do you think he looks good for dressage from these videos. In other words, can you tell he has dressage experience…
Yes I understand the rider is not the best. Now he is mine and I ride him 200 percent better then the girl in the videos! I am also helping him get back to shape! When I got him, he was a rescue horse… He is thin, scrawny, and bones, but now that he is mine, we are fixing him up to be the dressage boy he was!
Oh, and what do you see that could be improved about the HORSE in this video.. Like more use of back legs or anything? By the way, this was without a bit!
I can see some nice steps and moments. He obviously needs strength and more weight (muscle) and work in long and low. And these videos were from before he was a rescue?
He tracks up at walk and trot, the canter wants to go forward. All the work is on the left rein, so really not a lot can be told. The video does not show that he has or has not had upper level training. She doesn’t ask him to be balanced (shoulder fore/shoulder in) so of course he isn’t.
All the video tells us is that he has 3 good gaits, wants to go forward, needs a real bit/bridle, needs muscle, and get rid of that rubber neck stretcher (which isn’t bad on it’s own, but must be used with a bit to be anything other than a stretchy tie down.)
This should be a fun horse to bring back if he does have upper level training. You need to work with an instructor to develop his muscles properly and not be tempted to just learn his ‘tricks’. Upper level horses can be very difficult for lower level (and jumper) riders to handle. That may be why she ended up doing ‘natural’ training with him. The upper level boys have the ability to avoid just plain riding if it isn’t done correctly.
I’d take him on as a rescue recovery in a heartbeat!
add–even in this video he needs weight, muscle, work long and low, over walk and trot cavelette, lots and lots and lots of transitions (that is what builds muscle and balance). Work on the lunge, under saddle, and longitudinal and lateral stretching/fluidity exercises. Don’t you want to send him to Texas for rehab?….I’m open!
well he looks good, but you don’t, sorry
Horse looks great
no i really don’t think that horse could excel in dressarge! it doesn’t really have a light floaty trot like i like horses to have! also it isn’t a very attractive horse! mine is much better
the HORSE was very nice! nice looks, too!
He is a nice horse – ridden by a total idiot who has him tied down, has hands like jack hammers and no seat whatsoever.
It will take quite a bit of strong leg and seat to get him going correctly after being ridden like this for a while.
i think this horse has a lot of potential, in this video the riders hands are kinda crazy and she has the reins all loose and sloppy, but you can see that he is really trying to be up and itno the bridle, just try not to use any tie downs like this and find a good , conection with him and see if you can get him using his hind end a little more…i hoped i helped:)
That rider is AWFUL!! I don’t ride english and I can even say that! She might as well have been sitting on his neck. Poor horse was definitely trying. Natural horsemanship my @%% lol.
First thing is to get rid of the damn tie down and let him move naturally THEN work him into frame. And yes, he needs to pick up his feet.He seemed to be tripping a lot. More action in the rear would be nice. He wasn’t very round/collected for a lot of it but I think that had more to do with the rider than his lack of training or effort.
Over-all, he is very nice and I believe he would have a lot of potential.
Good luck with him
That horse looks so smooth.
