Dressage Olympian Richard Davison @ Olympia for the Kur

Richard Davison has competed on British dressage teams for two decades and now brings his lovely horse, ‘Artemis’ to Olympia for the Grand Prix and the Kur. At only nine, this is the horse’s first test at this level and first time in such an electric atmosphere. What a little star though, he looks the ultimate professional throughout and is definitely one to watch for the future! Richard rides to a specially arranged piece of music that was composed by Elton John.

Absolutely stunning horse and incredible performance. Dressage is a wonderful discipline, and was so beautifully performed in this clip. Amazing that this was the horse’s first performance at this level! Congratulations Richard Davidson and Artemis!

This is an inspirational ride. If it’s possible to feel the energies of the rider through a video, it certainly made me feel relaxed. You could tell that Artemis, young at the time, was nervous and looking around. Yet, Richard didn’t push or pressure him, he rode with a soft and feeling reasurance that visibly calmed the horse through the ride.
This is certainly my cup of tea. I’ll take this over the “best” riders any day.

I can’t wait to see more of this pair in 2010!

So lovely to see that Elton John allowed his song to be used in equestrian sport! I also like that they mentioned the arranger at 2.11. If more great musicians get involved it will allow the sport to increase in popularity.

@watersprite91 he is actually dark bay! i’m not sure where the dun comes from lol :L he looks very much like the horse i ride – same age too!
also, aren’t buckskin and dun the american and english version of the same colour? x

the thing that i love about this test is that there ARE mistakes, but Richard just continues to ride the test, he doesn’t worry the horse. like when he is about to do his first trot half pass and Artemis canters then walks, Richard is so quiet and lets him sort himself out. he also pats him to reasure and praise him several times throughout the test. i also don’t think the horse is beyond the vertical at any one point during this test, which is nice to see :) and very impressive one-times!
