Dressage Test Question!?

Ok This is a little embarressing as I’ve done quite a few dressage tests in the past. But. I forgot how it goes. They announce you and you do a trotting lap in the dressage arena then get out until they ring the bell and you go in and start your test? I think thats right but need a refresher course on that part.. Thanks.

It depends on the facility. Though, as a general rule, when the previous rider has exited the arena, you are allowed to do some sort of warm up while the judge is filling in the final notes for the previous competitor and is pulling out your test sheet. At that point she will either ring a bell or blow a whistle (or something of that nature) and you have 45 seconds to enter the arena.

Usually the judge would prefer that you warm up along the border of the arena, not in it. This means no circles or figures for the rider, but it means you’re already outside the arena and just need to enter when the bell rings.

Many facilities though are tight on space and for some reason or another do not have room for you to travel all the way around the arena. If that is the case, you are allowed to warm up in the arena once the other competitor has exited. I’ve seen riders then exit the arena once the bell was rung or simply go to the end of the arena and turn down the centerline. Either is usually correct.

When you go check in, ask the show manager how they are doing it at that show, or just watch other competitors who go before you.
