Horse Boots in Dressage?

Horse boots, that is.

My horse has a rather large stride, which is quite nice in Dressage, but he does need Brushing Boots. It’s not a huge issue, but he does need them for flat work. I was reading through the Dressage attire standards on the USEF website and there was this bit that addressed horse boots that I found a tad confusing. At one point it said that no boots of any kind were allowed, but then later it said they were – sort of… I suppose I am misunderstanding the writing and I assume that what they mean is that there are some circumstances that disallow the use of boots, but I am a bit unsure what circumstances disallow their use..

SO. Are brushing boots (of conservative color) allowed in USDF recognized Dressage Competition? I realize that most of the horses at upper levels don’t really need these, but as I think about it more, I haven’t seen (or noticed?) too many horses that use Brushing Boots even in First Level Dressage. I’ve never had a horse that really needed them in flat work, so I’m not quite sure…

Thanks :)

BTW…I use these:

Horse boots of any kind are not allowed in recognized USDF competitions.

Boots or wraps are only allowed in warm up arena; if you step foot in the competition arena to be judged with boots or wraps of any kind, you are eliminated. Sorry

you’re allowed to use them in the warm up. However, when you’re done warming up they have to come off before leave them warm up… generally that would be the smartest. USDF doesn’t let in to special circumstances. your horse shouldn’t need boots for one test at all. :) he/ she will be fine without them!! good luck!
