How Many Plaits Should a Horse Have in Its Mane?

How many plaits should a horse have in its mane for:
1) Dressage
2) SJ
3) XC (?)
4) Showing

Also when should and shouldnt you plait a horses tail (1-4 above)?

Im in the UK if that makes any difference and i have a 16.2hh horse with average amount of mane so theres nothing special to consider.

    According to this article: http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/horsecare/article.php?aid=37741 it should be seven to nine plaits.

    I couldn’t get to all the questions but reading online copies of Horse and Hound should give you more answers.
