Introducing Billy! Our First Ottb of 2012

Hi everyone! Hope you all had unreal Chrissy’s and New years! Sorry I’ve been away for a couple of weeks, I used up all my downloads and my internet got slowed down so I couldn’t use the damn thing, AND I got a new pony! This is Billy. He’s a 3yo 15.2 off the track Thoroughbred. Had a few starts but was too slow and retired sound where he got scooped up to become a show horse. All I know from there on is that he was ridden half a dozen times in the round yard, sacked, left in the paddock and was about to be taken to the sale yards when I heard about him. That week I had a friend pick him up and bring him back to our place, I’d never seen him under saddle or even really seen him up close before, but I was told he was quiet, and he came from a friend of a friend so for the sake of a horse not going to market I took him on. He started out very pushy on the ground which a week of solid groundwork started to improve, and during that time I started him out on some hardfeed, rugging and LOTS of grooming and washing to get that coat up and some weight on. Pulled his mane and forelock, tail had a trim too, and he is starting to look like a proper little horse! He has the cheekiest adorable personality, I just love him. He is going to be a cracking little dressage or show horse one day, I can’t wait to see how he comes up. He is litterally a blank canvas, no steering, no contact, no leg etc, so watch this space. There’s something special about this little guy and I’m really excited

I saw Lofty advertised and wondered when your new one was coming in. What a stunning boy, very well put together. Looks much nicer with a hair cut too. Look forward to seeing you work with him. :) x

@Lillable1 Haha, I’ve had this one since day after boxing day and have been dying to do a video! Yeah he was a bit scraggly but he will come up awesome. I’ve seen him in good condition months ago with the prev owner and he’s a good lookin little boy! :) xx

He is beautiful! Looks like he’ll be really, really nice!

And just asking, this is not an insult or critique in any way as I love the way you work with your horses, but why do you choose to ride in a martingale all the time?

@HorsesHoldMyHeart You are most welcome to ask questions! Young horses I ride in a martingale for my own protection – being smacked in the gob by a horses head (happened before!) Most of the off the trackers like to have their heads in the air when they’re transitioning, so it’s really for my own safety, and it also allows a bit more control when they put their heads up and run, or if it’s a strong horse. I have been flatting lofty without them lately though :) xxx
