Is It Because My Horse Has an Ewe Neck That She Had Trouble Getting on the Bit?

My mare has trouble in dressage, always has, cause she has so much trouble being put on the bit.
She’s inherited her ewe neck from her sire. So because of an ewe neck, is it harder for horse to bend their neck?

What are you doing to get her on the bit?
An ewe neck definatly plays a factor in her having a harder time going on the bit…But with a great dressage rider with nice hands, then she will slowly build up a nicer neck line to help her STAY on the bit longer.
Have you thought about you as a rider playing a fact in having trouble getting her on the bit?

An ewe neck will always make it difficult to go on the bit, but there are other things you can do. My friend rides a Morgan with a very Morgan-ish neck, and all she has to do is let the reins go a little. Try to ride with your seat and legs, and release a little more to make her stretch. Also, if she’s been holding her head up a lot, she probably built up muscle under her neck, instead of on her topline. Hope this helps! :)
