Need Tips and and Advice for Switching to a New Barn.?

I need some tips. The barn I have been going to is a dressage stable. I started out there six years ago. But now I’m getting bored with it. Another stable I found does hunter jumpers, which is what I’ve wanted to do. The dressage barn has an indoor arena. As far as I know, it is nothing special. The problem is sentimental. It’s almost like a family, since its a small stable, everyone knows everyone. I was thinking that I could go mainly to the hunter jumper barn and still go occaisionaly to my dresssage barn. Anyone gone through this and what should I do? How do I break it yo my insuctor?
Horse Rider, thanks. The barn I want to switch to is like that. It teaches whatever the student is interested in.

Just be honest and open with your instructor. Always, ALWAYS, leave on a good note – you may be wanting to return if the new venture isn’t what you expect it to be.

Be honest and tell your instructor that although you have appreciated all you’ve been taught, your interested in trying hunter/jumper for a while and your thinking of moving to the new barn. What does your instructor think of the new trainer?

After you move, keep in touch with your old trainer and let em know how things are going at the new place. Visit on occasions but don’t just show up unannounced unless its that type of facility. Call your old instructor and as if its ok for you to stop by during a specific time.

Eventually, if you like the new place, you’ll make new friends and the old will fade.

Explain to him that you absolutely love it there, especially the atmosphere, but you would like to try hunter jumpers. Be honest and still be loyal to your current dressage barn. Possibly they will consider adding it to theirs if they see that more are wanting the same. Good luck.

Are you boarding a horse there? If not, just start taking lessons at the other one, and tell him you are getting burned out on the dressage and are going to try something new for a while. (It’s not like you’re cheating on him!) If he’s an adult and a professional, he’ll take it like a man, and wish you well and tell you you’re welcome back anytime.

If he acts like a pouting child, you really are better off at the other place anyway! :)

Well my barn offers both Dressage lessons and Hunter/jumper lessons. If you get bored with one, you switch riding instructors. If you have a stable with both around, I suggest you move to that one because if you find out you don’t like hunters, you can still be at the same place with the same people and horses, but do a different disapline. If not, calmly explain to your Dressage instructor that you want to try hunter/jumpers. Tell him that he was great and there was nothing wrong with the place, but simply dressage just wasn’t your ‘thing’. If he is a mature adult, he’ll take it fine and wish you good luck and that if you ever want to come back, you can.

well i had a slightly similar problem when i anted to switch. Im at a barn now and i know and love everyone and they all like me. My trainer is pretty much my guardian or older sister. but there is another ranch that my best friend is at and it has better trails (which is what i want)

anyways what I decided too do was stay at my current ranch because even though the other barn had soemthing I wanted to do I think it’d be a pain to start all over and also if they are like family, family sticks together.
