Teaching a Horse Dressage?
I’m(Well me and a trainer and the trainer’s daughter, who is a close friend) are thinking about buying a young horse from some boarders at our stables since they are moving away to wisconsin and have to sell their horse for finical reasons.
but anyway the horse will be four in September and has had some basic training of walk/trot/canter
they just started riding him last week with a 115 pound 5’3” advanced rider and he’s done well.
But anyway we want to teach him some dressage and hopefully we will be successful. So what would be the first steps?
Also can you teach an older horse(18) dressage and if so how would you go about that thanks
Oh and what do you think about buying deal?
I know some Dressage but i haven’t done it in like 2 years so my skills need some work, but the trainer I might buy with know dressage and her daughter only knows what i know so the mother(trainer) will teach us Dressage.
Any horse can learn dressage. But, in order for a horse to learn dressage, so must a rider. I would suggest working with a trainer. Dressage is more than learning a few movements. For a rider, it is learning a whole new language — the language of the classic seat.
Go for it! But, like I said… start out with a trainer. You don’t need to stay with them forever… just long enough to get an idea of the different way you will use your aids — seat, weight, calves, thighs, core, shoulders, and hands.
Best of luck!
