What Size Dressage Girth Should I Buy?

I have a gelding who wears a 52" english girth and i just bought him a dressage saddle and am wondering what size girth he would be?? I am going to a tack sale tomorrow to get my saddle and would like to buy the girth at the same time. If anyone could convert it for me that would be awesome! (Seeing as i can’t take the saddle back to the barn to measure it on my horse)

I think you can use an English girth on a dressage saddle, especially if the girth is a little short on your horse. Dressage girths are a little shorter than english girths, but other than that I don’t think they’re much different. If you’re at a tack sale then tack experts should be there and they can help you. There’s really no easy "conversion" without knowing how the 52” fits your horse. (Like does it go all the way to the top of the billets or only to the second or third hole?)

if you aren’t going to do a big show then you can just use a english one.

NO,your english girth will not work with a dressage saddle! I also use a size 52 english girth and I use a 28 or 30 inch dressage girth. The English girth will be way too long with a dressage saddle.

Unless of course, you have universal billets on your saddle!
