What Would a Good Horse Height Be for Me?
I’m 5’6" and I weigh about 110. I am looking to purchase a horse or pony soon and I was just wondering what heights would be good.
I am currently really looking at three horses…one is 13.3hh quarter pony, the others are 16.2 hh and 17.1 hh warmbloods
HUGE difference I know!
I’m just wondering if the 13.3 hh pony would be too small and if it would look too off.
– I would use them all for jumping/hunter/dressage etc.
thanks!
Hey
i wouldn’t go for the 13.3 i am 5ft 3" and look to tall for 13.3 so i wouldn’t if i were u. But you sound quite light so you don’t want a huge horse like the others you have looked at.
Personally i would try 14.3 – 15.2 something like that.
try Horsemart

You can refine the search to look at horses of a certain height in a certain region zat a certain price, colour, age, sex etc.
hope this helps
good luck!
I’m the exact same height and weight.
My horse is 16.1.
That should be a maximum height.
15.3 – 16.1 is suitable.
You are MUCH to big for the pony.
The 17.1hh Warmblood is much to big, it’ll be harder to handle.
The 16.2hh horse, could be suitable.
Stay in the range I gave you.
It took me 8 months to finally find my horse.
Take your time.
Dont rush, and get everything checked.
RIDE BEFORE YOU BUY.
Depending on your age I would say about a 14.2hh.
that’s a good height for you…….you don’t need to get a horse any shorter than 15hh…….i’m only 5.2 and i own a 16hh horse…..don’t get a pony…….good luck!!!!!!!!
I think you should go with the warmbloods…
Okaii You Need A Tall Horse…Same as me!!!
about 16h+h
Really, it’s whatever horse you feel most comfortable with. I would shy away from the 17.1hh because he may be too hard to handle, but he may be perfect. 13.3hh seems a bit small for your height and you might look out of place. I’d say 16.2hh is perfect as long as you love the horse. At your height and weight, you should be able to control it, with experience, should something go wrong. Good luck!
I wouldnt get the 13.3 hand pony, my old horse was 13.3 hands and everyone used to joke around and tell me i needed a bigger horse! (i was about 5’5" at the time now 5’7"). He founderd now so im now getting a bigger horse. (thats also a problem many ponys tend to founder a lot). 17 hands might be a bit tall or seem intimidating when he acts up. I would get the 16.2 hand horse. The 13.3 hand pony can probably hold you, but you may look a bit disproportionate. Unless you really like the pony i would get the 16.2 hand horse that you will never outgrow, or regret getting a pony. Also the warmbloods will probably be much better suited for your disciplines and more athletic then the quarter pony.
Any height would be good.
I am the same height as you, and I weigh a little less, and I ride a 16hh horse, and he would be okay for me even if I reached 5’11. My friend has a 14.3hh horse and I look too big for him, so I would have to say the pony is too small.
Don’t get a pony. Get a horse.
I wouldn’t go higher then 16.2, but its up to you. It depends if you feel more comfortable on a smaller or larger horse. 13.3 is not too small, but if you are young and will keep growing you might want to look for something bigger. Ideally it would be like 15-15.2 hands but don’t restrict your search.
