Whats Your Dream Boarding Barn Like?

My friend and I would like to own our own boarding barn one day. I would specialize in the Dressage/Eventing training and she would specialize in the hunters/jumpers/equitation training. I’ve already taken some business classes and a Vertibrate Zoology class. (We’re both Juniors in High School, and although it seems a bit far away in the future, its still something to think about!) We’re both going to "Horsey" colleges (Any horsey college suggestions?). Right now, we both work at a very nice hunter/jumper/equitation (and Eventing) barn: http://www.parkwoodjumpers.com/

So, guys, whats your dream boarding barn like?
1.What ammenities does it have?
2.what services are available?
3.What type of atmosphere?
4.How many barns and what are they like?
5.How many indoor/outdoor arenas?
6.How many trainers?
7.If you can find pictures of stalls or barns you like, share them!!
8.What price rance do you think would be suitable for this barn? (PLEASE be reasonable on this one! Dont put a month or anything dumb like that. :P )
9. Suggestions for lessons? Price for lessons? (once again, try to be real on this one :P )
Go ahead and say anything about your dream boarding barn (just be for-real, please dont say, "A barn with free board and you can ride Pegasus!!! xD)

Well, I would own my dream barn, and maybe just have a couple boarders to help float expenses. It wouldn’t be some 72-stall monster, so that limits things.

    1. Totally heated and insulated with an indoor arena (Live in MN- Heated= Must), wash stall with hot and cold water, lounge/ tack room with bathroom, fridge/microwave, feed room, 2 bedroom apartment above barn, XC course with galloping track, window in the lounge to view arena…..
    2. Adding supplements to feed, blanketing, medications and worming, farrier and vet scheduling, special feed, separate turn-out….all for an extra fee, of course. Well, except blanketing and supplements- That’s only extra in super-fancy Hunter-esque barns.
    3. Relaxed. I’d be showing, but like I said, it would only be a few boarders- Maybe an 8-stall barn.
    4. Just one, unless you count the extra shed I’d have away from the main barn for hay and feed storage. (Fire hazard- I’d keep enough for a day or two in the main barn, but otherwise the hay would be banished outside) The main barn would have an attached indoor, 12×12 box stalls, cement flooring, fans, heating, all of that in #1.
    5. One indoor, probably an outdoor too. I currently only have an outdoor except when I board in the winter, so I’m kinda sick of outdoors at the moment.
    6. As many as people want, assuming it doesn’t get too crazy. The size of the barn wouldn’t really attract trainers if they want somewhere to work out of, so it wouldn’t be a big problem, I think. I don’t care if people brought their trainers in to give them a lesson.
    7. I love these: http://www.equinesystems.com/images/stalls/Cheyenne_lg.jpg http://www.unclehowards.com/Portals/0/Barn%20Photos/Horse%20Barns/Triple-Crown-Horse-Barn.jpg I think this barn is lovely, although I’d probably go for something more practical, like this: http://www.lesterbuildings.com/pictures/images/photos/312435_Dommel%20Mare%20Barn%20001.jpg
    8. It depends on the economy, but for my area I’d probably do $550/month, if I kept it completely heated. If I did semi-heated I’d probably drop it to $450.
    9. If I taught I’d do it for cheap- It’d be a side thing. Probably $30/lesson, they could use a horse of mine if I had a suitable one. I’d do basic Dressage and Jumping lessons- IF I taught.

    I would want:

A lot of pasture and turnout with grass.
    Big stalls
    Indoor and outdoor arena
    plenty of jumps
    cross country course
    plenty of trails
    All day turnout
    Board that cost $500-$650
    A showing/eventing team

    1-
    - Big Tack Room
    - Trophy Room
    - Big Bathroom (With a working toilet and shower)

    2-
    - Boarding
    - Lessons
    - Trail Riding

    3-
I would want it to be very calming and professional looking. Hard-wood stalls with a cast iron finish. Gardens outside the barns. Apple trees. Rolling hills.

    4-
Only one barn, but it would be big enough. Maybe 30 or 40 stalls.

    5-
One very large indoor (300 x 150) and one very large outdoor (300 x 150) A large round pen as well.

    6-
Only one or two… me being one of them! :-)

    7-
    My dream barn: http://www.tupperfarms.com/DreamBarnSm.jpg
    My dream stalls: http://www.stableright.ca/images/stall-designer.jpg

    8-
For boarding? I’d make it very reasonable considering the amount of things I’d have… Outdoor: $350 Indoor: $450
Or for upkeep? I really don’t even want to think about it :-P

    9-
I’d try to keep lessons in small groups, of 2 or 3 people. Lesson Rates: 1/2 hour: $20 1 hour: $30 Private: $40

I would also like the people and horses to be kind and friendly.

Honestly, I have to say its right here at my own house. We have really good facilities, indoor and outdoor arena (both very big) 5 huge barns (around 40 stalls each) for our stallions, mares, broodmares/pregnant, foals, and 1 for our boarders. We have a vet on site, and 3 trainers. Our stable hands clean stalls everyday. Everything is clean and very new looking. Nothing laying around or looking bad. Healthy and happy horses. We give lessons. Its a high-quality show barn, we breed, train and show. We breed Saddlebreds and Morgan horses. We have over 100 horses. Our board is only $300 (extremely cheap, I have no idea why my parents have it so low, it could easily make $600) We are involved in 4-H and Pony Club. Over 2000 acres. Extra saddles and brides for people whos’ saddle broke, etc. Fresh hay, water all the time. De-worming comes with board. Heated lounge and tack room. 8 large tack rooms in each barn, with washer and dryer. Fridge and microwave in lounge. Trailers available all the time for boarders to use (small fee is required first) Trail rides all the time. A show jumping and cross-country team. And a drill team.

So yea its a lot, and I loove it =) Thats my dream barn right there, if only we had a Unicorn to top it all off then it would be PERFECT lol (:

    1.
2.Both English and Western disciplines would be available
    3. A very positive, fun, and relaxed atmosphere. Nothing to stress about and very helpful
    4. AH! Thats a tough one….. lets see I would have at least 3 possibly more, lots of pastures, trails, xc, And on a HUGE amount of Land….
    5. At least 2 outdoors, and 2 indoors, a big outdoor and indoor or covered round pen..
    6. At least 3
    7. A few I like for stalls

    http://rammfence.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/nobleman_02.jpg%3Fw%3D300%26h%3D263

    8. For full board (stalls w/runs, pasture time, feeding, ect) would be around $300 And other board (they supply feed, and either have a stall or pasture) $100-$150

    9. Large Group (6+) would be around $60and thats w/ a horse provided. Small group (2-5) would be around $100 and thats w/horse provided for them. And for a private lesson it would be anywhere from $160+ all depending on the length they choose and if they are working with a lesson horse….And the group lessons are either 30min or 1 hour… and if they are short on money we could work something out…… I dont take lessons never have so I dont know if my prices are wacked out or not…. but to me it sounds fair…

My dream boarding barn isn’t a barn. My dream barn is my own private barn with no boarders.

A nice, say, 10-stall barn, fancy-everything. Heated washstall, indoor ring with full course of jumps, outdoor ring with full set of jumps, plenty of pasture for grazing/riding. White board fencing with hot wire along the top.

I’d have my horse, my Appy from years ago, and some rescued horses. I would also have a young OTTB to work and a large [genetically] black Warmblood stallion (Olympic-caliber horse) that I’d stand for a bunch of money.

Silly and unlikely? Yes. But honestly if I could have my own barn it would be fantastic, even without the fancy WB and heated washstall.

    1.
    - big stalls, lots of outdoor space, and good feed. the staff should be well selected and well versed in what they do to take care of horses.

    2.
    - riding lessons,[ for those who can't ride .. or just not well ]
    - jumping, dressage, cross-country trainers.

    3.
    - i think a close community would be nice.
    - a barn that does lots of community events with the nearby town or whatever is always great. my old barn would always have events, and young kids in school would sometimes take field trips there. we had a hoedown every year, and on earth day, they would have a special set up around the barn.

    4.
    - it would depend on what you want to do. if it were to be a breeding barn, then maybe three or four barns. one for stallions, foals, mares, and maybe one more for competing horses.

    5.
    - well, one indoor jumping and one indoor dressage.
    - one big outdoor cross-country course, an outdoor dressage arena, an outdoor jumping arena, and maybe a small coral or two for newer people who don’t want to be racing around in a big arena.

    6.
    - this will depend on how many people are willing to learn or take on your services. for starters, i’d say one trainer for the three competitions. if there are more and more willing to learn, then start to hire more.

    7.
    link in sources.

    8.
    - about $500 or so?

    9.
    - depends on demand.

Ahh! Me and my two friends were talking about this a while back!! haha But i think they forgot.. But i was serious! lol We (or I..?) would specialize in fun activities with small prizes for the winner.. Like $10 and a new grooming set or something.. lol haha And Me and one of them is taking a zoology class next semester and we are also juniors. I think Sweet Briar would be a good "horsey" college to look at. Now to the questions… lol
    1. Large stalls with some huge rolling pastures with kentucky bluegrass and white plank fences.
    2. Grooming, Bathing, Exercise, Proper turnout, farrier on sight and price covered in board, and all the basic necessities of course :)
    3. Happy and upbeat:)
    4. At least 3 barns with around 10 or more stalls.
    5. About 2 indoor arenas for the rainy days and 4 outdoor for training and games.
    6. At least one for every 6 horses. That way everyone can have a class once a week and they still get a days rest.
    7. These are not mine but i couldn’t get their links so i saved them and added them to photobucket.( I have no claim on them except that I like them) And theres a bunch lol

    http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll198/Cathy_scott/TAU1182.jpg
    8. The lowest is $250 a month and the highest $500
9.Price for the Lessons would be added to the board or $25 if not boarding. And It would be one on one with the trainer and you. On a schedule fixed to everyones convenience.

Completely and totally unlikely? Yes of course. But it would be great if it could happen.
