Will the Foal Be a Good eventer/Dressage Horse?
You can critisise, but please don’t tell me to change my mind, She is breeding to him on Wednesday
I am trying to breed an eventing horse, although i would like it to be especially good at dressage.
Just wondering if this would be a good cross..

Could you please answer this about the coming foal?

Height……

Discipline….
Thanks!
PS, just for fun, do you think it will be a boy or girl!?
I will preface this comment by stating that I am NOT an eventer and am rather into the dressage end of things. With that in mind…
The video of the potential father is a bit grainy so it was somewhat difficult to make a fully informed judgement of him. My impression of him was that he’s not that dynamic (in terms of his gaits, cadence, impulsion, etc.) but he is still young, and the video quality was rather distracting.
His photograph is much more flattering. Regarding his confirmation, he has a very nice top line, excellent shoulder – very nice shoulder, neck, and head. I don’t like his hip, at least from a dressage perspective. It’s not a bad hip, definitely better angled for jumping than dressage. He’s shorter in the croup than I like to see. Good legs. He has decent bone but maybe not as heavy as I like to see.
I was very impressed by the dam’s sire. Excellent gates, suspension, and seemingly quiet temperment (as does the potential father). He’s balanced, straight and forward. Assuming ma takes after pa, I think it will probably make an able cross. And, yes, I think the odds are that you will end up with some sort of bay color – close to black, perhaps as big as 16.2, 16.3 but likely a bit smaller (grandpa looks a bit larger than ma so she may throw some of his size).
I think you have some excitement coming your way
. Have fun!
Height, Somewhere around 16 hands maybe.
Color, I don’t know what color most of that sires foals are but based on your mare another Bay horse.
Discipline, I think your foal will be very well put together and have excellent movement.
And I think a filly
He is a nice horse, I thought about using him on my mare but, as she was a month overdue with foaling and didn’t foal until the end of July, I decided to wait until next year.
That is my only thought about you covering your mare this late. We are now into August, assuming that you have had her swabbed and checked for cleanliness after foaling if you get her in foal first time on her foaling heat, then a foal is not going to appear until July at the earliest next year.
You say you want to event, which seems you have good breeding lines for, but, you are at a disadvantage if you want to start and show in the futurity classes for eventers.
Height can be anything from 15h to 16.2
Bay
With the breeding lines you have should be good for eventing.
Look at your foal in the field. If it overtracks (its hind legs go ‘in the foot print’ of the fore legs, that is a good sign. However, being a good dressage or eventing horse all comes down to how your train and ride it. The more flat work you do, the more balanced and rhythmmical the jumping will be.
Well as for if it will be an outstanding eventer/dressage horse, hard to say. Sure, it helps if the parents etc have the talent but it all depends on the trainer and rider. We can’t tell you for sure.
Height: Around 15 or 16 hh I’m guessing.
Color: Likely a Bay
Discipline: I think it would excel at eventing, but as I said, it mostly depends on rider and trainer.
I say filly ha ha.
Hope this helps!
well ok this is gunna sound really weird but i have found to get a really good horse in any disipline u need a horse that is very well suited to it and just a plesure horse.
